Ingredients
2 eggs
3/4 cup milk
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 loaf of challah bread (it is best if it is a bit stale)
2 tablespoons butter
Preparation
In a shallow medium bowl, whisk two eggs together. Add 3/4 cup of milk, 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon to the bowl. Whisk well to combine.
Cut the challah into 8 thick slices. Heat a large skillet over medium heat with 1 tablespoon of butter. Spread the butter to ensure it covers the whole pan. Dunk each piece of bread into the egg mixture bowl and then flip to ensure it is evenly coated (make sure it soaks up as much liquid as possible).
Add pieces of the soaked bread to the preheated pan. Cook on medium until the bottoms are a golden color (check by lifting the side of a piece). Flip them and cook until the other sides are also golden. Remove the pieces and place on a serving tray. Cook all the pieces the same way.
Serve the french toast with fresh berries, jam, nectarines, or caramelized bananas and maple syrup.
